Saraswathi Ranganathan, Veena www.SaraswathiVeena.com Experience the many vibrant hues of Southern Indian instrument Veena as Chicagoland cross cultural ambassador Saraswathi Ranganathan, treats you to an artistically rich, aesthetically pleasing presentation! Saraswathi tirelessly strives for sounds of the ancient instrument Veena to reach a global audience – she has the distinction of being the first Veena artiste to be showcased in the Jungle Book Musical orchestra of Disney Theatrical Productions. Her latest double album “Refreshing Raga Blues” showcases Carnatic classical and original scores that have been featured on several radio shows and productions. Saraswathi teaches vocal and Veena through her not for profit school Ensemble of Ragas. Saraswathi founded world music ensemble “Surabhi” – a melting pot of music! As part of this initiative, Saraswathi has been producing and presenting, Raga-based cross cultural music: Raga-Flamenco, Raga-Blues-Senegalese, Raga-Maqam – to bring a slice of the world to her audience for cultural education, joyful moments, and celebration of her mission “one stage. one music. one community” For 2017, Saraswathi is working on Raga-Andean music highlighting folk music from South India and traditional folk music from the Andes region. Ganapathi Ranganathan, Mridangam : www.rganapathi.com The sound of enchanting drums, the majestic reverberations, the beats of ecstasy, the rhythm abandon, the perfect taal, fast and complex yet elegant and captivating – these are some of the excellent comments that Ganapathi has received for his performances both by critiques and admirers alike, globally. Ganapathi has been tutored by the world number one Mridangist Sri. Patri Satish Kumar. As mridangam is all about beats and mathematics, Ganapathi, who has a Bachelors and Masters in Engineering, has mastered this art naturally. He also invents his own rhythms & has performed as part of several impressive ensembles along with English, African, & Indian Drums. Nitin Mitta, Tabla: www.nitinmitta.com Nitin Mitta is one of the most accomplished and distinctive tabla players of his generation, with a reputation for technical virtuosity, spontaneity, clarity of tone, and sensitivity to melodic nuances. Apart from being a dynamic soloist, he is a highly sought after accompanist who has performed with some of India’s most celebrated Hindustani classical musicians, including Pandit Jasraj, Dr. Prabha Atre, Pandits Rajan and Sajan Mishra, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, and Ustad Shahid Parvez, as well as many Carnatic musicians, such as Lalgudi G.J.R Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi. Nitin has also made a mark as a versatile collaborator in other spheres. He recently joined forces with 2010 Grammy Nominee Pianist Vijay Iyer and electric guitarist R. Prasanna to produce a studio album titled Tirtha that blends elements of contemporary jazz with the North and South Indian traditional ragas and compositions.
